The AIIA and the Japan Foundation are partnering up to create a network of early career professionals in the Indo-Pacific, this year focused on disaster resilience. This webinar is your chance to learn and ask questions about the program and application process. You can read about the program and submit your application here.

The network will begin in 2023 with a cohort of 15 early-career professionals selected to focus on a particular policy question. The theme for the 2023 cohort is disaster resilience. Participants will focus on a particular social or policy aspect of this question, for example, disaster communication, disaster preparedness, passing on the memory of disaster, or international disaster response. They will be asked to develop their research during a series of tours and meetings across Japan, Australia, and the South Pacific throughout late 2023 and early 2024, with the aim of producing a final publication and/or policy recommendations in cooperation with the rest of the cohort.

We invite early-career professionals, especially those from or residing in Australia, Japan, the Pacific Islands, South East and South Asia, or the United States, to apply to participate in the network. Applicants from other parts of the Indo-Pacific are welcome to apply.

Participation is free but is strictly limited based on the quality of applications. Participants will be selected according to the requirements on the application form and their ability to contribute to the subject matter at hand. Each physical trip will last around one week. Participants must commit to being available and willing to travel to the travel locations at the times advertised on the application form. All travel will be funded and organised by the Japan Foundation and the AIIA.

Participants will automatically also become part of the #AIIANextGen Network, and thus be eligible for benefits such as entry to events and unique research opportunities. Applicants who are unsuccessful for the Indo-Pacific Cooperation Network may also be considered for the #AIIANextGen Network, and thus may still be offered the chance to participate in opportunities such as conference participation or separate study tours.

Again, you can read about the program and submit your application here.

APPLICATIONS CLOSE ON JULY 31 (JST).
